St. Claude Branch: 46 First Street
This lovely francophone town is the hub of community life for people living and farming in the Central Plains west of Winnipeg. Our office here offers fully bilingual service and a complete range of products, whether you’re insuring your home, business, farm or livelihood.
Office & Neighbourhood
We’re on St. Claude’s main commercial street, just off Provincial Road 240. Look for us between the town’s two grocery stores, near the meat market and home goods store.
Also near our office are a health centre, pharmacy and veterinary clinic. Pembina Co-op supports the community including it’s card lock fuel service. Just about everything you need is here in St. Claude – including the knowledgeable advice of our full-service insurance office.
Every town has its own quirky roadside attraction. Ours is a huge smoking pipe – 19 feet long, five feet high and weighing more than 400 pounds. It’s a tribute to the town’s namesake – the village of Saint-Claude in the province of Jura, France – where some of the first settlers in this region originated. Pipe manufacturing was the main industry in their ancestral home.
St. Claude has many other tourist attractions, both fun and educational. The town has done a wonderful job of preserving its heritage sites and now uses them to share the region’s history. At the Manitoba Dairy Museum, you can see how the industry evolved during the 20th century. At the Gaol Museum, you can have your picture taken behind bars in a typical country lock-up from pioneer days. The town’s old CPR train station and one-room schools have also been converted into a pioneer museum, filled with interesting artifacts.
These heritage sites make St. Claude’s modern church seem even more distinctive. It was designed by Franco-Manitoban architect Etienne Gaboury, who is renowned for his avant-garde church designs.
St. Claude is known as the Dairy Capital of the West with Parmalat being the major industry. Parmalat makes butter which is sold throughout Canada and skim milk powder which is exported world wide including to support many third world countries. With approximately 40 employees, Parmalat is the largest employer in St. Claude.
