All four branches work as a team to provide expert advice and a full slate of insurance products. Our neighbourhood branches know your community and understand your needs. And when you need specialized coverage, our main office can recommend the smartest choices from the wide range of products we represent. Together, we’ll assure you of the best insurance solutions, with convenient, friendly service every time.

Invested in our community

We’re enthusiastic supporters of the organizations that keep this community vibrant, healthy and full of opportunity.
You’ll find us helping out at Habitat for Humanity builds, and cheering on the next Sami Jo Small as sponsor of the Women’s High School Hockey League. From dragon boat racing to neighbourhood events, we’re invested in the future of this city.
We do our part to keep our economy thriving as members of the Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba, Winnipeg and Manitoba chambers of commerce and various trade associations.
We believe being a good corporate citizen means being a great employer. We have great people and we believe in earning their loyalty. That’s why MIG received the Top Insurance Workplace award from Insurance Business Canada Magazine in 2019.

Main office: 1401 Portage Avenue

Office & Neighbourhood

Our main Winnipeg office is just east of Polo Park Shopping Centre, at the corner of Portage Avenue and Strathcona Street.
If you’ve lived in this area awhile, you may remember the gas bar and a little ice cream joint that once stood here. Now it’s the site of our modern office building.
When new customers are planning to visit, we tell them to look for Rae & Jerry’s, the legendary Winnipeg steak house that is our next-door neighbour. When you spot that gloriously retro Rae & Jerry’s sign, you’re almost here!
Whether you’re traveling by car, bus or bike, you’ll find it’s easy to reach us. Portage Avenue is a major transportation route, with great transit service. If you live in Wolseley, Minto or River Heights, we’re on the “drive home” side as you travel from downtown. With ample free parking on site and a bus stop right outside our door, it’s quick and easy to pop in to see our brokers.
And when you visit, please feel free to bring along your four-footed friends! This is a totally dog-friendly environment – as Phoebe, our Staff Morale Officer, can attest. We’ve welcomed your pups since the days when our office was on Westminster Avenue in Wolseley. We’re thankful our customers – two-legged and four-legged – have followed us across Portage Avenue to this new location.

Local interest

The thoroughfare we now call Portage Avenue has always been the true “Gateway to the West.” In pioneer days, as many as 20 Red River ox carts would travel side by side on the trail to Portage la Prairie, the city where MIG Insurance was born.
It’s no wonder, then, that this street is still one of the widest in Canada, and that the surrounding area remains one of the city’s most important trade and commercial centres.

A five-minute walk from our office leads to Polo Park Shopping Centre, the largest indoor mall in the city. Beyond the mall is a sprawling commercial area filled with big box outlets, restaurants and just about every type of store imaginable, as well as the warehouses and trades to serve them.

Goods flow efficiently through the nearby international airport and multi-modal hub, making this area the continent’s true centre for trade.

Office team

The people at 1401 Portage play an important role in MIG operations all across Western Canada. This is the team behind our digital brokerage network, which provides a growing range of virtual services to customers in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. In 2019, their work earned MIG a finalist spot in the Insurance Business Canada Awards for Digital Innovator of the Year.

To support this important role, the main Winnipeg branch is licensed through the insurance councils of all four provinces, and has team members specializing in specific types of insurance, such as commercial and fleet. They have in-depth knowledge of the products offered by the dozens of insurance companies and specialty insurance markets we represent. When needed, they lend their expertise to our neighbourhood branches, assuring you of the best insurance advice for any scenario.
Whether you are visiting our office or using our online services, you can expect every experience to be friendly, respectful and efficient. We take the time to understand your needs and find the coverage that provides the best value for each unique situation. We have imagined a world where insurance is bought, not sold. This means bringing buyer friendly insurance to life through care, professionalism and knowledge.

West perimeter branch: 3715 Portage Avenue

Office & Neighbourhood

We’re at the far west end of Portage Avenue near Winnipeg’s west perimeter, within a short drive of more than 20 auto dealerships. Located at the centre of this car-buying Mecca, it’s no surprise that we’re auto insurance specialists. In fact, this branch was established back in 2003 for the specific aim of serving these dealerships.
Since then, this branch has grown into a west Winnipeg hub for business and personal insurance. We serve the surrounding neighbourhoods of Crestview, Westwood, Glendale and Buchanan, as well as many businesses along the Portage Avenue strip. We also welcome customers from Headingley and all the new developments sprouting up along the way.
Chances are, we’ll be on your route when you’re out shopping, dining or picking up some quick take-out. The area’s retail centre just steps away.

Local interest

Behind the modern façade of the west Winnipeg suburbs are some of the city’s most intriguing historic sites and natural features.

Two kilometres east of our office is the Historical Museum of St. James-Assiniboia, an 1856 house furnished with pieces from the period. A little further east, a scenic hike along Sturgeon Creek leads to Grant’s Old Mill, a working recreation of the first water mill in Western Canada.

As you follow the creek south to Woodhaven Park, it isn’t uncommon to see a beaver or two swimming as modern apartment towers rise in the background. Nearby you’ll see a 7,000-pound military jet mounted on a pedestal – a tribute to the RCAF’s history in Winnipeg.

Also nearby is the Living Prairie Museum, a 13-hectare tall-grass-prairie reserve, one of the few remaining fragments of a once-vast ecosystem that covered a million square acres of North America before European settlement.

Office team

When it comes to handling auto insurance, no one can outshine the team at 3715 Portage Avenue. Whether you’re a car owner or car dealer, we’ll make it simple and easy to choose the best Autopac coverage for your needs. We can recommend enhancements that will provide maximum value for your situation, whether through public insurance or private firms.

We can also connect you to a full range of home, life, travel and business insurance solutions. In total, we represent more than 15 insurance companies and dozens of specialty insurance markets.

We take the time to understand your needs and find the coverage that provides the best value for each unique situation. We have imagined a world where insurance is bought, not sold. Charleswood branch: 3900 Grant Avenue

Office & Neighbourhood

We’re located in the big strip mall between Laxdal and Haney, a popular commercial hub for people living in Charleswood, Tuxedo and communities on the north side of the Charleswood Bridge. It’s a convenient place to park and pop in when you’re out and about to shop or nosh.

We’ve done business here for many years – first under the York Insurance name, and now as part of the MIG family. After enjoying a good working relationship for many years, we decided to officially join the MIG team in 2011.

Local interest

One of the best things about our area is the abundance of green space all around us. Charleswood was a separate municipality before joining the City of Winnipeg in the 1970s, and it still has that semi-rural feel.
Within a five-minute drive of our office is Assiniboine Park, a sprawling green space inspired by Central Park in New York City. Like Central Park, it’s a place you could easily spend a whole day exploring.

All ages love the Assiniboine Park Zoo and its unique Journey to Churchill exhibit, where polar bears and belugas frolic. At the outdoor Lyric Theatre, you can enjoy free summer concerts featuring world-class entertainment like the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. A leisurely stroll through the well-tended English Garden leads to the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, where you can admire the beautiful bronze sculptures of a renowned Winnipeg artist. Soon there will be one more place to explore in this all-season haven – The Leaf and Canada’s Diversity Gardens, featuring a new conservatory now under construction.

South of the park is the Assiniboine Forest, a unique forest within a city, complete with a herd of white-tailed deer. From there, hikers can explore the Harte Trail, a 6.5-kilometre path stretching all the way west to the Perimeter Highway.

Office team

Our main focus is your personal insurance needs, including car, home and travel insurance. We’ll make the process simple, easy and clear, helping you can feel confident that you’ve made the right coverage decisions.

If you’re shopping business insurance, we can connect you with a complete range of solutions, working in partnership with specialists from our main office. Together, we’ll ensure you receive the best coverage for your needs, and the best value for your premium dollar.

Ridgecrest branch: 2405 Main Street

Office & Neighbourhood

Our office is at the centre of the fast-growing north Winnipeg communities Riverbend and Rivergrove. We’re in the strip mall right across Main Street from the Red River Community Centre. When you see Brown’s Socialhouse, you’ve arrived!

If you live in Middlechurch or West St. Paul, we’re probably on your regular route for shopping and business in town. For those traveling from the east side of the river, we’re just two right turns away as you come off the Chief Peguis Trail.

Although our location is new, we have a long history in the insurance business. Before joining the MIG family in 2001, we were Keith Insurance, and members of the Keith family are still part of our team. In fact, we have some second- and third-generation family members working with us today!

Local interest

Tucked away amid the new housing developments are some of the few remaining physical reminders of the Selkirk Settlers and the early struggles of the place we now call Manitoba.

Those settlers would not have survived by the help of Peguis, the Saulteaux chief for whom the Chief Peguis Trail was named. With his help, they fended off starvation and went on to name many places in the area “Kildonan,” after the parish in Scotland from which many of those early settlers came. Their heritage endures in the names of parks, recreation areas, schools and communities on both sides of the Red River.

Within a three-minute walk from our door is Kildonan Presbyterian Church, which was a symbol of stability for the Selkirk Settlers, 40 years after their arrival. The oldest stone church still standing in Winnipeg, it was built by the same stonemason who built Upper and Lower Fort Garry. It was also where an alleged spy for Louis Riel was held captive during the 1869-70 Red River Rebellion.

The cemetery became the final resting place of many Selkirk Settlers and prominent Anglo-Metis families. Look for names like Bannatyne, King, Ross and Sutherland carved into the headstones.
A short walk north from the church leads to McBeth House, built by descendants of the Selkirk Settlers in 1912. Now a meeting place for seniors, the grand old home sits on seven acres of beautiful green space on the banks of the Red River – a symbol of the prosperity many settlers eventually found after their difficult arrival.
